What we do
Te Huarahi Tika Trust seeks to increase the participation of Maori in the knowledge econnomy, in particular, the information and telecommunications sector in New Zealand. Key objectives include:
Promotion of education and training programmes that support Maori in the fields of ICT
Skill development in the ICT sectors
Foster and promote research and development into ICT and technology
The promotion and facilitation of access to business mentors, conferences, presentations and other learning experiences.
Scholarships and grant making to Maori communities to give access to telecommunications technology, with a focus on remote and economically disadvantaged communities
This year the Government is injecting $74.6 million into increasing demand for research and development projects. The money will boost "Growth Grants" distributed by Callaghan Innovation.
But what real benefits are in it for Māori businesses?
Minister of Science and Innovation Paul Goldsmith says this research and development fund will help Aotearoa businesses get their ideas and products to the market sooner and further increase export revenues.
